I always have and always will enjoy a great weekend at the cottage, fishing for smallmouth bass off the ol' dock.
One day, my friend and I were making casts with our tiny torpedo floating lures. We were having alot of success that day because it was early June and the Bass were going crazy bitting top water lures.
Have you ever reeled your lure in too close and had the leader get stuck in the rod tip, only to cast and have the lure break off? Well, it's happened to me many times, and on this day it happened to my friend. The lure flew into the air and landed in the water. We then started arguing about which one of us should jump into the water to grab the lure, because it was one of my favorites. The water was also verrrrry cold, since it was early in the season.
Just as I decided that I would be the one to go get the lure, the water exploded. A fish had taken the lure! I became angry and started cursing. We couldn't believe what had just taken place!
Just as I was about to go into the tackle box for something else to tie on, something floated to the surface. It was my lure! Withought hesitation, I immediately jumped into the lake with all my clothes on. This was not going to happen again!
Did I mention that the water was cold?
After a long hot shower to warm myself up, my friend and I were discussing possible reasons why the lure floated back. We figure that the fish managed to spit it out, because he had not set the hook.
Now, every time my lure breaks off, I don't hesitate to go get it.
